My name is Danielle, I am 39 years old, I am the lucky mom to three awesome children, 2 boys and a little girl and I am married to another crazy runner. I was not always a runner. Cheerleading was how I kept active growing up and throughout my High School years. After High School I belonged to various gyms and I would go for a few months, lose interest and stop going. This was a never ending cycle until my mid 20s. Right after September 11, 2001, my cousin and his wife ran in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC. I was in awe of all of those runners. My interest was sparked that day but it took me another 3 years to do something about it.
I am also a teacher and in the fall of 2004 I had a student who was battling leukemia (ALL) and I wanted to do something to help him. Team in Training became my answer. They train you for an endurance event while you raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My student was receiving his chemotherapy treatments at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and I knew that some of the Eastern PA Leukemia and Lymphoma fundraising would go to research at CHOP and I felt like in some way I was helping my student. In October 2004 I signed up for the New Jersey Marathon in Long Branch New Jersey in April of 2005. The training and the race were awesome and I was immediately hooked. I became a mentor and then a running coach with Team in Training. Throughout the numerous seasons I made amazing friends, met my husband, and coached many people through training runs and eventually across the finish line. I found coaching to be so rewarding, especially when I met people who had never ran more that 2 miles and then watched them cross the finish line after running 26.2 miles. After getting married and having my 2 boys it was hard for me to make the time commitment to coach with Team in Training. I truly missed the coaching though.
In August 2012 I became a certified Distance Running Coach with the Road Runners Club of America in order to continue to coach others and share my love of distance running and training. Over the past 9 years I have run 11 full marathons, more that 20 half marathons, various 10 milers, 10ks, and 5ks. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your distance running goals!
