So people always make comments about my running: you are crazy, how do you find the time, what do you think about when you run, do you listen to music, I get tired driving 1o miles let alone running that far, etc. The thing is, I am not alone in my passion for running (I just talk about it more in the hopes of inspiring others to start). I have so many awesome people in my life that are also runners and that are currently training for a spring race. I thought I would do a little Q & A with each of them so that you can get to know each one of these awesome runners a little better. Who knows, maybe one of their stories will motivate you to get moving!
So today you will be hearing from Melissa. Check out what she has to say about running!
DK Runner Mom Athlete Questionnaire:
Who are you? Name, age, family, children, occupation, etc.
Melissa Broderick, age 36, married to Ian Broderick, two kids, Declan age 6 and Finley age 4. I am an independent Court reporter.
When did you start running? Why did you start?
I have run ever since I was in high school. I ran to stay in shape during swim season.
Are you currently training for a race? If so, which race(s)?
I am currently signed up for the Wildwood Half Marathon down the shore on May 18th.
What is your goal for your race? Just to finish or to finish in a certain time?
My goal for this race is to be under 2 hours… Hopefully this year I can run a little faster than my last one!
Have you run any races before? If so, which ones?
I have run a lot of small 5k races in the past… The biggest one I did was the Philadelphia Rock n Roll ½ marathon in September of 2012…
When do you run? Is it hard to find time to train?
I run normally twice during the week and Saturdays and Sundays… I have to run mostly at the gym because I have the kids with me in kids club.
Do you run with music? What do you like to listen to? What are some of your favorite running songs?
I love running with music but also with a partner. I know with the training for the last half marathon that having someone with me made the time go by so much faster. I normally just listen to Pandora!
What is your favorite piece of running gear? Sneakers, shorts, headphones, etc?
I love my Iphone for running… I have Itunes to listen to if nothing is on Pandora or I can switch what kind of music I am listening too depending on how my run is going!
What do you love about running? What do you dislike about running?
I love the feeling after having a good long run! There is nothing I don’t like about running… I know it sounds crazy because most people are the opposite but I actually enjoy running on a treadmill while watching TV! It makes the time go by faster especially for those long runs.
How does running make you feel?
Less stressed, like I accomplished something, more relaxed and more patience.
Our next featured Athlete will be Colleen! Stay tuned for her Q & A :)
